1. TCU - The Horned Frogs (21-12) are a 9 seed due in large part to the strength of the Big 12 Conference. They posted a 5-11 record against Quad 1 teams and their non-conference slate was laughable ranking 349th in the nation out of 362 teams. The offense struggles to take care of basketball ranking 236th in turnovers per possession and defensively they rank 198th in opponent FG%.
2. Texas A&M- The Aggies received a generous 9 seed despite losing 14 games that included a handful against very mediocre teams. While they were 13-10 against Quad 1 and 2 teams they dropped 4 out of 6 games against Quad 3 teams. Offensively they have been dreadful shooting the ball ranking 342nd in effective FG% and 222nd in FT percentage (70.9). Defensively they are average at best ranking just 186th in opponent FG%.
3. James Madison- The Dukes' 31-3 record is due largely to a schedule that ranks 314th in the nation. They did beat Michigan State in East Lansing way back in November, but it was the season opener for both teams and the Spartans haven’t been the team many expected. They dropped both matchups against the Sun Belt’s top team in Appalachian State and caught a break not having to face either the Mountaineers or 3rd seeded Troy in the conference tournament. Free throw shooting is a liability ranking 232nd (70.8).
